It has been kept inside the casing of an older model of iPhone. Operating System: iOS 6

Apple always powers its new generation iPhone with a better operating system than the handset’s predecessor did. Why would the sixth generation iPhone be any different? Liquidmetal Back

Korea IT News reports that Apple will be utilizing Liquidmetal for making the shell of the next generation iPhone. Quick Update (25th April): According to an analyst at ZDNET, Apple is least concerned about making iPhone 5 tougher to break. The main motive behind using the liquidmetal technology for back cover of iPhone 5 is that it will become possible to create thinner iPhone 5. The thinner sheets of Liquidmetal will leave more space for additional internal parts of the next generation iPhone.

Update: April 17, 2012

OMG! We can kill for a bigger screen! Latest buzz (most recent one by Brian White) says that iPhone 5 will be loaded with a 4-inch display. In fact, a couple of weeks back, Reuters reported that Apple has placed orders for 4.6 inch Retina Display. So, you never know… The screen is expected to feature improved resolution too. Though, earlier in March, Editor-in-chief at iMore said that the sixth generation iPhone will not feature a screen bigger than the size of 4 inches. Because prototypes of iPhone 5 are kept inside cases of older models of iPhone, they cannot have a bigger display screen (greater than those of current iPhone models).

Quick Update (May 16, 2012): 4-inch for iPhone 5 Almost Confirmed!

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has ordered bigger screen displays for iPhone 5. Even if not very huge (rumored 4.6 inches), the handset’s screen will at least be of 4-inches.

Latest report by Bloomberg says that Steve Jobs was working too closely on the bigger screen for the sixth generation iPhone , before his medical leave. This rumor again reconfirms that iPhone 5 was his last ambitious project and that the handset will surely have a bigger display this time than its predecessors.

4G LTE Capability

Every user wants to enjoy speedy downloads and uploads. iMore’s March Story on LTE inclusion in iPhone 5 is supported by Brian White’s report. It seems obvious though! The new iPad has LTE capability, so it’s obvious that iPhone 5 will have it too!

Update: April 12, 2012

Processor: Possibly a variant of A5X

The latest iPad by Apple flaunts an A5 processor, but its major responsibility is to support iPad’s Retina Display. Recently, it has been reported that Apple has created an iPhone 5 prototype with the sole intention of testing its performance with a variant of A5X processor chip. No rumors about what this new and improved chip will add to the handset have popped up. But certainly, Apple has something great hidden up its sleeves!

Increased Memory

iPhone 4S sports a 512 MB RAM. The next generation iPhone is purported to have 1GB of Random Access Memory, said by 9To5Mac. According to it, iPhone 5 prototypes under the testing phase are all equipped with 1GB RAM. Increased RAM will improve the processing speed of the handset.

Patently Apple has uncovered patents that suggest Apple is planning to introduce a 3D camera to its to-be launched iOS devices. The camera will have a capability to scan an object and regenerate its three dimensional model on the handset. 3D models would also be created by combining videos and pictures of a subject (for instance, your home) that have been taken singly.

Update: March 23, 2012

Smaller Dock Connector

If Apple uses a smaller dock plug (as reported by iMore in February), more room will be created for additional components inside the circuitry of the handset. Reports say that iPhone 5 would feature miniaturized dock connector.

Update: March 6, 2012

According to one of the many rumors picked up by Brian White (during his trip to Asia), iPhone 5 is going to have NFC support. Update: April 24, 2012

iPhone 5 Nano Version

China Times reports that along with iPhone 5, Apple will be introducing a nano version of the handset too. In its talks with Chinese suppliers of Apple, the suppliers revealed that they are currently working on certain parts of iPhone 5; that actually belong to its nano version. Anaysts say that Apple is trying to reach out to the low-end market that cannot afford its pricey devices.

iPhone 5 Price

Apple follows a strange strategy for pricing its iPhones. For instance, iPhone 4S was made available at the same price that iPhone 4 was being offered at (two years ago). This time, if Apple decides to stick to its trail, then iPhone 5 will also be priced similarly to iPhone 4S. However, with so many added functionalities, it’s hard to imagine iphone 5′s starting price to be $199!

For now, all we can do is wait. Hope Apple doesn’t disappoint us this time! We will be getting back to you as soon as we find something new on iPhone 5. Stay connected, stay updated!

Is there any truth in the rumor that the iphone 5 will be absolutely water-resistant ? I wish Apple does manufacture such device in future.

Gosh ! How many people are there who are so obsessed of owning the so called greatest/most wanted phone that they wouldn't buy some other smartphone? I don't understand one simple thing, what is it that your current smartphone is not providing that you cannot even settle down until the phone (new iPhone ) you really long for is ready to purchase?

I have been a Samsung Sync user (Running on AT&T) since last 2 years. I too have been desiring an iPhone 4 since it was launched, but still have held off. I am absolutely able to make a phone call or send an sms. Even cellphone browsing is something , I find much better in comparison to a PC/Laptop surfing or even an iPad or other tablet.

So if the new iPhone (iPhone 5) releases, I will first compare it to the iPhone 4S (basically a comparison of features), in order to justify it's price with it's predecessor. This will help me choose right option for me and if there are not much enhancements in current features, I can finally settle down with a 4S on a comparatively bargained price. That makes perfect sense for me.

There are many people who just want to own a latest/trendiest cellphone to show off other people and irony is that they don't even know how to use half of the features of their current smartphone. So for the sake of texting and calling only, if those so called bunch of people want to buy the latest iPhone, I really feel silly for them. Won't it be much smarter to buy a free/cheaper phone with a qwerty pad and no costly data plan, instead of wasting $199 worth money on a phone with a $75/month data plan, that they can't even handle properly ?

So much of iPhone Grudge…Phew !

Bravo Trevor ! You got it Man ! I am impressed. Seriously, how many of us actually know how to explore all of our smartphones. Sometimes even the most down-graded phones remain under utilized and people here are drooling their pillows in hopes of iPhone 5 (in their dreams). I also don't understand why are people salivating for a phone that they can't even use to it's full capacity.

  • iloveandroids
    May 24, 2012

Why don't people simply get android phones, they are much cheaper and far better than iPhones. An android phone can do what an iPhone does in a more costlier way. Why do people waste their money on iTunes store. Seems, Apple favoring blogs had people brainwashed since long time. Use you wit and get an android phone. Don't wait for an iPhone 5, which will not even have 4.7" screen like the new Samsung S-III has.

  • ihateandroidphones
    May 24, 2012

@iloveandroids You have underestimated an iPhone's capacity in that case. With a little bit of instructions and time one can use all apps running on an android phones , as good on iPhones too. Jailbreaking has now been even legalized. So, I see no restrictions here for an iPhone owner.

Secondly, Android phones are already a cheap rip off of iPhones. So comparing them to an Apple device is utter foolish. And by the way, Android phones are cheaper because their labors in foreign countries are underpaid. So nothing like an iPhone. iPhone 5 with a 3.95 inch display will be better than a Samsung S-III with 4.7" screen. Take my word !

  • AniPhoneFan
    May 24, 2012

As per my opinion, you are a way too biased for androids. iPhones are much user friendly, sexy and tactile than android devices. Also, I am yet to explore an android phone that is able to handle abuse better than my iPhone does. I can say this from my personal experience, as an year back I switched to Android GS-II from an iPhone 4 ans I still have regrets for that decision.

None of the android devices can run along with iPhone, when we talk about software and hardware that is so strong and supports the user so well. Well planned and well built Apple phones will never let you down. With an android phone, I am sure you will get bored within a month or two.

The sync feature in Apple devices is awesome, as it allows you to use the iTunes downloads in all your apple devices without adding much extra cost. I personally can't wait to get my hands over iPhone 5 and I am pretty sure this time it will be worth waiting for.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
